I Understand It, I Just Want It To Go Away
Common Cold. Bleah.
Cold treatments recommended in commoncold.org have been properly tested and found to be effective. Their side effects are known and are acceptable for treating a mild illness like a cold. They include the following:
Older antihistamines ("first generation")Nonsteroidal antinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)Decongestants (vasoconstrictors)Cough suppressants (narcotics)Anticholinergics (ipratropium)
I didn't see tea in their list... darn it.

Chicken soup for the common cold?
Do you have a cold?
Now what would lead you to believe that I had a cold....?
OF COURSE ID DO!
Ugh.
mmm...hot toddy...mmm.
Having just shed my spring version of sinusitis and general run down feeling after a fortnight, my sympathies.
The worst part is being married to a medical practitioner who can calmly trot out a dozen "ITYS" (I told you so's) about my poor preventative behavior...
Sounds as if it's too late for the best method I've found for heading off cold miseries:
At the very first sign of scratchiness in your throat or nasal passages, tuck a 50 mg tablet of zinc inside your cheek and let it dissolve very slowly--no sucking on it! Repeat every 2 to 3 hours until the scratchiness disappears. Works every time! Of course, you have to carry zinc on your person all the time, because cold symptoms often come on while you're at work, and time is of the essence with this cure. But even if you're a little late in taking it, chances are your symptoms will be reduced and the course of the cold somewhat shorter than otherwise.
Zinc rules! But I was, as you surmised, too late.
How bout a penny? They're primarally zinc nowadays.
Tea.
You definitely need Tea.
Lots of Tea.
Pixie is right. TEA!!!
