I Think This Area Is Zoned Retail...

Village of Saydan, Kapisa Province side of the Panjshir River. I loved watching the area slowly grow with more and more things became available to buy. I think the local folks kind of liked seeing us rumbling through every once in a while - at least judging from the smiles and waves...

If the Afghani army rolled down my street, I think I'd smile and wave too....

We weren't the Afghan National Army. And we were not in tactical vehicles either. There were other places that weren't so friendly - so I don't think we intimidated anyone in white pickup trucks...

When I was on patrols with the 3/116th Infantry, maybe.

I always thought of us as (generally speaking) entertainment to the locals. After all, nobody has TV there so people just liked to see what we were doing. Kind of like having American Idol (or the Simpsons - depending on your point of view) roll through your town.
