Electioneering in Afghanistan

A billboard for presidental candidate Younis Qanooni in Kapisa Province. If you look at it closely, you can see it actually quite sophisticated - tries to show Mr. Qanooni as the rightful heir to the popular (and late) Ahmad Shah Masood. Just because the Afghans had not had meaningful election, well, really ever, doesn't mean they aren't sophisticated.

You're certainly an effective "good will ambassador" for the people of Afghanistan, Major T.

A compilation of many of your blog posts/photos would make a fascinating book for readers interested in learning more about their country and customs. I, for one, am completely in their thrall at present, having read your blog since its inception. It's impossible not to admire their grit and resourcefulness, not to mention their artistry. (Loved the photo of the man in his shop with all the hand-wrought metal vessels.) Do you have any photos of "jingle trucks"?

Look in the archives and go to August 16 and August 12, 2005. I probably should post another one!

Thanks for the kind words, BTW!

Hey, what's that under the plastic on the Balcony? I remember this building covered a busy intersection on the way to the Gov's compound.
