I'm the *board* gaming guy -- that carnival of gamers site appears to be all computer game stuff, which I don't really follow.
Simon: I have not played Pirates of the Spanish Main (or the expansions) but I will say it looks very cool to me, and I'm a total sucker for anything collectible (just ask my checkbook).
However, in terms of game play, I've heard mixed opinions, ranging from "One of the greatest multiplayer games ever invented" to "Worst game I think I've ever played. Words just can't describe how horribly boring and fiddly it really is."
This is probably a decent balanced capsule review of the game: "This game has received a lot of criticism from some extreme gamers, but I feel that this game is definately great. I recommend not taking it too seriously, as that will definately kill the fun of the game. If you use it as a casual, easy-to-carry game that you grab two seconds on the way out of the house, you will enjoy it lots."
Alright, you are off the hook...this time...
Oh Good Lord - Simon, Tempus - Tempus, Simon. You two go make rules while I play with the pieces, cards and mapboard. (BTW - that is an inside joke Tempus and I share about who values what in a new game...).
