It isn't like we don't have any lunatic, ex-government officials running around down here... so I guess we could let this one slide by. Heh.
My guess is the anti-Bush derangment syndrome is soooo deep and complete, they are now inventing "new" paranoid theories to think about. (You would think they have enough to pursue here on earth).
It reminds me of the um, nutcases in the 80's that were convinced that if Reagan continued to test nuclear bombs, it would endanger the rest of the universe. (huh?? Earth I can see, but galaxy? Universe?) The "ETs" were going to destroy us then because of that.
Developed, liberal democratic, capitalist, irrelevant, stable states can affort to be paranoid about such issues. Others, like the US, who have plenty of fingers in a number of pies (out of necessity rather than delusions of grandeur (although if truth be told any such delusions would be accurate by me)) are too busy worrying about the real world. We have too many problems with fellow human beings to worry about aliens.
By me, this is a good sign. It shows a state comfortable and safe (which would not be so without us or US). It's something like what Ashcroft shilt"a said: that every time someone expresses dissent or widely complains about being silenced by the government, it makes him feel good because the person's freedom and ability to openly make such claims proves that they are not being oppressed. (Point of advice for leftists: if someone is truly being oppressed, they are not able to express such sentiment in national media venues.)
I like that they worry about the implications of "ethical ET relations" because God knows the Canadian government doesn't care if America destroys the unethical one as long as they get to dissent to it in the UN.
