More evidence of shattered morale

The Inner Prop and I are at drill this weekend. Today we found out that three soldiers will be leaving us .... they have volunteered for OIF. A Master Sergeant, a Staff Sergeant and a Captain have asked, and been granted places with units going over this next rotation. The Staff Sergeant had previously deployed with us to Afghanistan, the Master Sergeant has not deployed yet, and the Captain had previously deployed to Iraq.

Sound like members of a disspirited and broken Army to you, Rep. Murtha?

To be sure, I will ask the chaplain to say a word or two for the three of them!

No surprise, Major. When the Black Watch asked for volunteers they received 3 times as many application to return to Iraq as they had places.
It's the news media who have lost their balls, not our soldiers.

Major John,

God bless you and your kind in the military.

I always get a little buzz when I see your posts, and I don't think I am alone.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

You da man!

People like you and your cohorts are the ones that make it possible for people like Murtha and Pelosi to be grand assholes.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart - no matter ow trite it sounds, I mean it,

This kind of commitment gives me goosebumps. Thank God for this kind of spirit. I'm feeling much better after reading of such actions.

There are more servicemembers that volunteer to go back than most people ever hear about. My hat is off to them and my heart is warmed by their sense of honor and duty. May they go and do good things and return safely to their families.

The poop I'm hearing from my Army connections is that most soldiers consider it safe enough, despite the mayhem shown on TV, that it's worth the risk to get some combat time on their career record and a combat patch on their right arm.

And my point is not to suggest that they are doing this for personal gain, but that the information coming from those who have been on the front lines is that progress is being made and that the media is exagerating the dangers of service in Iraq.

Sure 12-24 months awya from family, friends and home. To go far away and risk death ... for a FWSI. OK, if you say so...

If it is someone looking for a 90-120 days in a "safe" assignment, perhaps. But the people I described are going to be running convoys or working in units providing security. No REMFs or FOBBITS.

If they were just after the extra pay, there are always other safer and more lucrative organizations to work for. For example, KBR, Blackwater, Dyna-Corp, ETC. The fact is people are going back because we see we are making a difference and what we do does matter to the on the street Afghan and Iraqi. These stories are not told within the media, they do not fit the agenda they want to present.
