A new Donut - my Army Career
I am adding a new donut - I turned in my paper today to retire from the Army. Since I enlisted in March of 1985, and I will retire effective July 1, 2012 - here is my career in the Donut format:
I had to steady my hand when signing. Except for a few months as an 18 year old, I have spent my entire adult life as a Soldier - National Guard, Reserve or on Active Duty. But starting July1st, I will be in a new status...

Be careful, mate. Years of movie-watching has taught me that things get really...interesting once you put in your retirement papers.
You're not partnered up with Mel Gibson by any chance?
Mel Gibson? Not that anyone at Joint Forces Headquarters has told me...yet.
The last chance for anything too interesting in my career will be the G-8 and NATO summits in Chicago this coming Spring. Maybe I will get to hit a hippy with a riot baton. 26 years and I haven't even had on chance...
Congratulations and thanks for your service, John. You are a credit to both the uniform and the donut.
I got called up for one "riot control" for a Bull's Championship in the 90s. They forgot to invite the rioters though so I had to watch them win in the armory.
It does start out weird and you feel guilty and really out of the loop. The guilty and out of the loop part doesn't go away, well, so far the weirdness part hasn't either.
I'll bet you make better use of your new free weekends than I do though.
Hey, any pics of old boys?
Oh, and congrats sir.
Prop,
Now you really do need to Facebook - ha! The Old Boy's site has plenty... but I will e-mail you some later.
Congratulations, John. Enjoy your rest.
tw: sersin. Ain't that one o' them fellers we been fightin'?
