Hiding my tears at the office
I made a big mistake at lunchtime today. I looked at Michael Yon's site and saw this photo. Now I am trying to hold back the tears as I hunch in my cubicle...
UPDATE: The original story.
Note: the soldier is of the 25th Infantry Division - that's the patch I wear on my right shoulder. That didn't help me keep my composure any.
ADDITIONAL UPDATE: Something more hopeful. [thanks to Carin commenting at Scribal Terror]

So very, very sad. Especially that it is the result of such cold hearted evil.
It just makes me bone tired and sad.
This is such a moving photo and it's been nominated for Time's Photo of the Year Award.
I hope everyone will go and vote for it. I did earlier today. :)

No matter how many times I've seen this photo, it always chokes me up, too. Thanks for your service, Major John. It never really ends, does it?
jwebb - no it doesn't. I am still working through some things. I don't know if I will ever get all of it taken care of - but I still would do it all over again if asked.
Terribly sad. Bless you, John, and thank you so much.
I've had tears of sorrow and joy, but I don't remember tears of anger. That's just what hit me.
And leaving Iraq now would make this better how?
These people wouldn't have been hit if the Americans weren't there. Are we sure? I think they'd be subject to even worse.
If it's any consolation, my combat patch is from the 1ST COSCOM. At least yours is a combat unit.
Odyessus - Hey now, I was attached from an ASG. Don't knock your unit or yourself! Right shoulder patch = Right shoulder patch, doesn't matter which one. It just hit a little more home that he was wearing the Electric Strawberry.
