This is just not good
I don't like the French Government one bit. The French soldiers I have worked with have been a mixed bag - the ones in Bosnia, not so good; the ones in Afghanistan, better. BUT NOBODY in France deserves to have their home, car, school, business, church, etc., burned, looted or otherwise harmed. And nobody deserves to have their blood spilled by the French intifadians.You will find no schadenfreude here. I have personally seen too many innocent people, in too much trouble, in too many places across this Earth to worry about politics, ideological point scoring or the like. I just damn well hope they can get this settled down.
Let us worry about analysis after people can cross the street without getting Molotov cocktails thrown at them.

The unemployment seems the key. If we could sort out those things acceptably manufactured from those that could be made with unskilled labor - cobblestone streets or some such - perhaps we might give self respect back. Or at least people might be tired enough to sleep at night. I am surprised to hear myself giving such a Luddite opinion. Jeff - Go Wildcats!
I am not so sure - as another pundit pointed out, unemployment has been worse in Polnad - they aren't rioting...as uncomfortable as it is for France, they have to look at how they deal with enormous amounts of North African immigrants.
We need to look at the way we deal with enormous numbers of Latin American immigrants or this will be us in thirty years.
The problem with the melting pot is that no one is assimilating. There's no melting going on. There's colonization, infection, invasion. And then we cry over secure borders, illegals not getting free medical care and schooling. Hey! Let's try affirmative action. And at the same time the average American family has two children and the average muslim or Mexican or whoever-is-new-to-your-culture family has five.

Ana...wow. You might enjoy the Immigration Act of 1924. President Calvin Coolidge, who signed the act, once said, ""America should be kept American. . . . Biological laws show that Nordics deteriorate when mixed with other races."
Back then they were afraid of eastern europeans, asias and Catholics 'infecting' the Anglo Saxon gene pool (I'll assume your not ethnically Slavic, Latin, Asian or, God forbid, Irish). For further reading, you might also enjoy the Chinese efforts at involuntary sterilization of people who bore more than two children. That might tie off (pun intended) that problem of "muslims or mexicans" breeding too much. Have fun, and keep American American!
