Baltimore
I just returned from Baltimore, Maryland... Baltimore needs help. It reminded me a bit of Philadelphia and St. Louis, in that it seems that the last 20+ years of general prosperity have unevenly flowed around certain places.
Let us just say I don't hope to get lost on the East side of Baltimore again. Ugh.

That's exactly the kind of thing that DIDN'T happen in Chicago and helped net us the nod on the Olympics!
Go Daley (a rising tide lifts all ships if you know what I mean).
Give me a break, The Olimpics are a strong armed robbery of the tax payers. The coruption we saw in afghanistan is childs play to what we deal with in this town. Follow the money. Who do you think will be getting all the contracts? Cash pay offs to our Labor Unions. Vote Daley baby. Do we need a disposable stadium in Washington Park? We need real jobs. Chicago looks great, Daley is tearing down all the projects. $0.5 million condos going up. Ship the poor off to the suburbs, let them deal with the gangs and crowded schools.
SHH CSM. People are happy, don't rock the boat.
Besides:
Tearing down condos and putting up nice homes is bad?
Spreading the poor around so they can be supported if they don't want to be poor, influenced if they are ignorant, and surrounded by law abiding and enforcing neighbors if they are committed to being criminals; instead of piling them on top of each other is bad?
Will the Olympics benefit Daley and his "people" sure. Will they benefit unfairly, yes. Illegally, maybe (or possibily).
BUT,
Will no one else benefit? Will a positive world view of the POSITIVE things about Chicago benefit everyone?
"Disposable stadium?" Who's to say what's disposable? The Museum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute, the Effel Tower, the London Eye, all built to be "disposable."
Having lived in Baltimore and now Atlanta, a post Olympic City (ca 1996). I concur with CSM's comments about corruption, however, the effect has been beneficial to Atlanta. It also helps to be the fastest growing metropolitan are in the nation.
Baltimore IS a disaster. They have squandered years of economic growth as the redheaded stepchild to Washington D.C. The new mayor, O'Malley, is still unravelling the corrupt nature of that city.
The few high points are surrounded by acres of neglect and decay.
