Gratuitous Afghanistan Photo of the Day (48)
Camp Suter, HQ of the British Forces in Afghanistan. Tim Worstall's brother works there as a contractor. The very best food in the Coalition is there. So, if you get the chance to be there at mealtime...
Nothing like risking life and limb on a convoy down Jalalabad road to get real bread and sniff the 2-can Saloon and an issue of UK FHM magazine. This fair haired colonial boy gives it 3 stars.
Don't get me wrong, the Brits were low key about it, and didn't rub it in (very much that is). This bar was on their base after all. When I was in Bosnia, the European military people were a bit startled by our "dry" policy. However, they are more used to the crazy American ways now.

ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I forgot to mention the horrible, Tantalus-like bar sitting there in Camp Suter. "Oooh, beer and stout, and I can't have any....yeargh!"

Even the Afghans were surprised by our abstinence. More of them drank than we did (I think).
