Low level flying and last departure

A couple of days back I got the Tour of All Southern Iraq, inadvertantly. I was flying what I thought was a quick trip back to my usual digs. Instead, I was asked where I was going, and more than once I was told "oh, you're last off" in a rather ominous manner. But hey, I had never seen Um Qasr, Camp Bucca, etc...

On the flight back I decided to pull out my obsolecent camera and flip it to movie mode and try to capture a bit of the feel of flying low over Southern Iraq. My first effort with Blogger's movie clip feature failed, so I embedded it from YouTube.

Major John,

First, thanks for your service and may God bless you.

Second, I tried to watch the video, but it says that it is no longer available. Is it my (stupid) computer or has it been taken down?

Thanks.

Chcuk,

I just ran it again - to be sure. It is working as far as I can see.

Give it a bit and try again. youTube can be a pain sometimes.

I guess it's good news that the news out of Iraq nowadays is a very routine and otherwise uneventful chopper flight.

You have youtube access?!?!?

Looks like you were fairly low. If you can talk the guys into popping up a bit you get about a 10 degree temperature drop. (But there are associated costs...)

Do you know which 'airline' you were with?

Hey - that last comment was me, not the Mrs. I think I'm a victim of identity theft here.

Boring. Reminds me of my flights in Beirut back in 83-84. But that is a GOOD thang. S/F

Greyhawk,

Sir - I am staying at a ...uh, different kind of place. I have a satellite dish to straight commercial internet, for now.

I was flying in an RAF Merlin.

Downer and Skyler - I didn't claim it was combat footage. I'm rather glad it wasn't...

Reminds me of taking the Ring flight the wrong way round in Afghanistan.

We stopped off in a couple of places they wouldn't tell me the name of.

That was awfully low. Did you go NOE?
