A lagging indicator?
In the US - we have seen the opposition/Left capture the national legislature. In Europe, the last two big national elections (Germany and France) saw the opposition/Right [Germany] and incumbent/Right [France] win. Canada switched to a more conservative/Right government, and Mexico reelected the PAN/Right in their Presidential election. Last elections held in Australia and Britain saw supporters of the US President retained.
Some might argue that change in the US was based more on disgust with a party in power that had drifted from what it had promised/wallowed in Washington like any other pig in acorn mash. Or are we a lagging indicator?
The greatest irony could be that anti-current American Administration appeals don't work...outside the United States.

I'm not sure I follow you MJ. Are you saying that the two possibilities are:
a. France et al are ahead of us in turning toward supporting the Bush Doctorine
or
b. That anti-Bush tactics are not effective outside the US?
Could it be that the countries that are just turning more pro-GWOT are behind and the US is so far ahead that GWOT has gone out of fashion already?

People like Bill Hobbs say that the world is turning to the right. I don't know about that - if so, then our last election is a lagging indicator. Perhaps ours was a simple "local" punishment of the established party - ala 1994.
"Anti-Americanism not working" is simply an example of a common theme amongst those defeated on the Left in Mexico, France, a bit in Australia, and a lot in Germany (especially Germany).
I contend that it is all about security and economics. France is plagued with a poor economy and suspect security. The left offers options which ignore those two basic facts.
In the USA we are blessed with perceived good security and a good economy. Hence the shellacking of the right.
Citizen,
Ah, like the old adage that in times of fear people turn to the dollar. In times of "perseved" bad economy and poor security we turn to the right, while when we feel fat, dumb and happy we feel generous to the "less fortunate" and turn left, n'est pas?
Oui!
